Number four...

In case you haven't heard by now, we are expecting baby number four in April! I'm adding a baby timeline to the top of the blog so you can follow our progress :)

This Past Weekend

These pictures are from Steve & Vel Wheeler's wedding this past weekend. It took place in The Chapel of the Resurrection at Valparaiso University.

This was my first time being the solo officiant at a wedding ceremony - after 14 years of ministry! Surprising, I know. What was more surprising was the enormity and beauty of this chapel. I would actually call it a modern-day cathedral.

First days of school!

Rachel started fourth grade this past week, and Daniel started preschool. They are both at Lakeview and are loving it! (They both have teachers named Mrs. Miller). Daniel was thrilled that he got to cut a paper... all the way to the top! Too funny :) He's in class with his best bud Brady Crossman. I feel sorry for his teacher!
I started teaching full time at Marion High School two weeks ago. It's been an interesting change for us, but the benefits are great!

Here we go again...

This time all three kids were outside and Rachel came in to tell me that Sarah was covered with wet sand! Daniel was covered a little, but not in his hair.

When I combed her hair AFTER her bath, I was flipping sand all over myself... Here she is - all clean. When she saw the camera, she yelled "No!" and covered her face. Typical. She'll be two in a couple of weeks.

When the cat's away, the mice do play.

I really needed to make some progress on this house today, so I sent the kids outside. I had also filled a container of dried drywall compound with water so that I could clean it out. Well, now I don't have to worry about that! I found the kids painting themselves with drywall compound. Here is the result...

I would have to say that this is MUCH BETTER than what Daniel used to paint himself with. :) Along those same lines, I put Sarah in panties for the first time today, and she stayed dry throughout the entire incident!

Plans

Brad and I flew down to Florida to be with his parents last Sunday. Brad flew back last night, but I am still here in Florida! My father-in-law, Dave, has an appointment with a doctor in Indianapolis on Thursday this week. He had a biopsy on Tuesday this week (the tumor is cancer, but his lungs are clear!), and we made plans to relocate Dave and Susan to Indiana with us. We made lots of phone calls on Wed. to arrange all the medical stuff, started packing on Thursday, and packed the truck today! I will be driving Dave's cute Volkswagon beetle up north, and Susan will drive her car (with Dave in it.) We plan to leave tomorrow after church and spread the trip over three days or so. Two men from the church down here will be driving the truck up for us. So, we've been busy, busy, busy, but we see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we're praying that it's not a train. :) Please continue to pray for Dave and Susan throughout this transition and cancer treatment.

Pastor Dave Terhune

I just wanted to let you know that my father-in-law will be having surgery on Tuesday, May 26. He has a tumor in his thigh that is grapefruit sized and fast-growing. The doctors are 90% sure that it is cancer, but they will cut into it on Tuesday to know for sure. Here is a website to keep you updated...http://http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/pastordave

Easter

After church this morning we went to Amy's for dinner and an Easter egg hunt. It was a beautiful day - a bit on the chilly side, but sunny.

Sarah was the first one let outside for our Easter egg hunt at Amy's. She got a head start finding the "balls."

Rachel and Sydney before dinner... These two can't be separated since Syd moved back.
Brady, Bryan and Daniel- the boys are getting to know each other and enjoy playing together.

Here we are, in our newly painted green kitchen! Candy and DVD's all around

Sarah wasn't sure about the sugar on the Peep she was trying to eat. She made a face and put it down.

All dressed up for church! Sarah just wouldn't give up the pacifier. Sigh...

Home Improvement

We've been working hard, getting our house ready to put on the market. We would just like to be closer to Brad's workplace and Rachel's school! Several projects had been started, so now we're finishing them and starting more! In the past month, we've removed the wallpaper from two rooms and a stairway and painted four rooms. We still have to repair one wall in the music room and the huge wall in the stairway. Then we can finish painting. The trim still needs to be done, as well.
Here I am on the second floor using the steamer to take the wallpaper off. Brad put the ladder over the railing, so I was up high!

Here's a little bit of "before" and "after" together! The striped wallpaper was the same that was in the music room when I was a kid. This wall is plaster and needs a bit of work to be paint-ready. The cream color on the right is the finished product.
The wall behind Mom to the left is the same wall as above.
"After" in the music room...
Try not to pay attention to the three darling children in this picture... check out the wallpaper behind them. It actually came off rather easily, and now the kitchen is painted green.

Latest Kid Quotes

Sarah is just talking away these days... she's 19 months old. She'll try to say just about anything, including "Up," "Help me," and "Chitchel" (Rachel - that's what Daniel called her, although he is now calling her "Rachel"). "Ah" means "Grandma" or "Grandpa," whichever is nearby. She tries to say "Daniel," and will frequently go around the room naming everyone. One of her favorite things to do is identify body parts, like nose ("no"), eyes, mouth, teeth, ears, toes, fingers, etc. She likes to put her fingers in my nose, eyes, mouth, etc. That's especially nice after she has just done this to Jack, our dog.

Daniel likes to have "chocolate milk in milk." Of course, that drives Rachel crazy, and she tries to correct him, which causes lots of screaming... Last night, while Daniel and Sarah were taking a bath, Daniel decided to dump cups of water out on the floor, which Sarah quickly followed. By the time I got it stopped, the floor was soaked. After spanking the perpetrator, he said, "But we were having fun!"

Daniel has recently discovered his middle name, after I used it when he was disobeying. He told me that he was not "David," he was Daniel! After convincing him that he is, in fact, Daniel David Terhune, he says it ALL THE TIME! "I'm Daniel David Terhune!" During the name discussion, I asked Daniel what my name was. He told me "Mommy." I asked what my last name was, and he said"Mommy Terhune." TOO CUTE!! Later, when Daniel was calling for Rachel, he was yelling, "Rachel Lynn!" We cracked up that he was calling her with her middle name.

Rachel told me that she didn't like going to Lakeview. I know this isn't true because she is thrilled to go to school and hang out with her friends, unlike last year when it was difficult to get her out the door in the morning. Not that she enjoys getting out of bed, but she is much more excited about school than before. Anyway, when I asked her why she didn't like Lakeview, she claimed it was because she just couldn't do the math. She hated long division! Coming from a family of math people, this was hard to swallow, but we kept encouraging her to keep working. This week she seems to have had a breakthrough! Now she is doing long division for fun, and is working ahead in the book! What an amazing transformation!!

Giveaway!

I've found a blogger who links all of the current sales at Marsh with current coupons in the paper and printables on the internet. She also lists deals for CVS, Walgreens, and Meijer, along with other stores we don't have around here! Anyway, the blogger is Bargain Briana, and she has a giveaway for a cheap vacation in Asheville, NC! Check it out, and if you win, you could visit Kim and Mike :)

I've finally done it...

... broken a bone, that is. I fell while playing broom ball last weekend and broke my wrist! I'm not supposed to lift any more than a pencil with that hand. How do you do that with an 18-month-old??? You move in with Mom and Dad.

On a lighter note, here are the family pics we had done at Portrayal Studios in Fairmount two weeks ago.

Sarah

Sarah is almost 18 months and has learned a favorite word - "no!" It's usually accompanied by a vigorous shaking of the head. Mom thought this outfit was so cute, and she told Sarah that she wanted to take a picture of her. Sarah, of course, said, "No!" and turned around. I managed to get a picture of her because she thought it was a game. I took pictures as she walked in and out of the room. She'd disappear for awhile and walk back in the room looking like she was very proud of herself.

Sarah LOVES babies, real or fake. Here she demonstrates how to care for a baby. You have to feed her, cover her up, and tell her "Nigh' nigh'!" You also have to take a break to talk on the phone.

Changes

Changes in New York... I got a hair cut and Rachel got her ears pierced! Look closely to see Rachel's new earrings... they are daisies with a sapphire in the middle... very cute.

My sister-in-law Tara is a woman of many talents. She actually went to school to be a hair dresser just to cut hair for friends and family. She gave me a hair cut in the kitchen of Mom and Dad's apartment. Keep in mind that Tara also has a two-week-old baby, and she took the time to cut my hair - how sweet! Thanks, Tara :)
