Some pics

Happy belated 8th birthday, Rachel! We went to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo with one of Rachel's friends a couple days before her birthday. We really had a good time. Here you see the cake baked (er, I mean, bought) especially for our picnic lunch.
The next picture is entitled, "The Turtle Dance." While we were walking by the giant tortoise exhibit, a young mother said to her young son, "Oh look. That's called the turtle dance." Oh. I'm glad I know what it's called now. Brad was disappointed that he didn't get a video with sound... For all those females out there, you'll be glad to know she got away.

This was in our kitchen with the ugly wallpaper (anyone want to help remove wallpaper with me? I have a LOT!) on Rachel's actual birthday.

Now, we move on to our LONG road trip. I took these pictures of the kids at the beginning of the trip. They look happy here.

Lots of miles, meals, gasoline, and one hotel stay later... we arrived in Florida! Here Rachel played with Papa in the yard because it looked like it was going to storm (and we couldn't go to the pool). I was shocked at how warm the water from the hose was... we couldn't do that in Indiana!

We were only in Florida for two days, but we had to go to the beach! Rachel loves the beach, but Daniel and Sarah had never been in the water before. Sarah had never been in the sand before, but that was definitely a highlight of her day. Daniel was a little nervous about the waves, so he played on the beach with Sarah.

See ya later - she's outta here!

This is what I did the first week of June before our travels... It resides on our kitchen table. I made it during a class at Sew Biz - this is where Mom and I participate in the Quilt Block of the Month classes throughout the year. This project was a separate class... lots of fun!

We're back...

One more Daniel-ism I forgot to report... What is that spot on the back of your leg, behind your knee?

The knee-pit.

We're back, and we're tired. We left last Saturday, driving to Florida to visit Brad's parents for a few days. We arrived just before midnight on Sunday...spent a lot of time sleeping on Monday (well, Brad and I did) and went to the beach on Tuesday with everyone. That was our 13th wedding anniversary - we're so OLD!! Actually, it really means that we married very young :) Anyway, to celebrate our anniversary, we went to the Cubs/Rays game in St. Petersburg at Tropicana Field - only about 10 minutes from Mom and Dad T's house! Even better, Dad T got us FREE TICKETS! Can't beat that, except that he also dropped us off and picked us up, so we didn't have to pay for parking either. The only thing better would have been if the Cubs had won, but they gave it a good shot. It was an exciting ending, anyway.
BTW, did you know that the Tampa Bay Rays play in St. Petersburg?

So on with our trip... On Wed. we left for Fort Valley, Georgia, for a job interview at a United Methodist Church. That went well, except for the trip there and the hotel stay - the 5 1/2 hour trip took seven, due to an accident on the interstate and other, unknown factors named Rachel, Daniel, and Sarah. At the hotel, the pool was out of order, which, of course, we didn't know until I had gotten everyone ready (Brad was at the church) and we went down there and found it padlocked. Sarah's knees and feet were black from crawling on the floor for just a few minutes... It was a bad 17 hours for me - I don't know that you could call the night restful because Sarah kept getting up and Rachel and Daniel were acting like not-so-loving siblings for most of the time. We (Kari and kids) didn't leave the room until noon the next day - only to discover a Burger King playplace within walking distance. Oh well... It was a bit hot to be playing outside anyway!

In case you are not aware, Brad has resigned from YFC and is currently looking for a full-time job. We'd love to stay at Lakeview, but he's just part-time there. So we've been on the job hunt for awhile now. He was offered the job in Georgia, and we're praying and contemplating...

Thursday, we drove to Athens, Tennesse and actually got to swim! Friday, we drove to my aunt and uncle's house in Cincinnati to spend the night. We enjoyed a nice visit, ate wonderful food, slept well, did laundry, and left this morning to drive to Connersville, Indiana (so good to be "Back Home Again, in Indiana!"). We spent "A Day Out with Thomas" on the Whitewater Valley Railroad. Daniel is a big Thomas fan, and we had tickets to ride Thomas. We'll post pictures of all of our adventures in due time... just not tonight! We're home at last, and tomorrow we leave for a week of senior high teen camp. The fun just never stops!

More Daniel-isms

What is the opposite of "Pick me up, Mommy?"

Why, "Pick me down, Mommy," of course. He used to just say, "Pick me." I told him that I would always pick him.

Please unlock the door, Daniel.
I'm lock the undoor, Mommy!

When he was first learning to talk and he didn't know what to say or he was in trouble, he'd say, "Hi." Later, under the same circumstances, he'd say, "See Mommy." It didn't matter if I was the one upset with him, he'd still want to "see Mommy." Now, he says, "I'm cold." I'm cold?? If anyone can figure this one out, let me know.
